I moved to Townsville in North Queensland to begin work with Troppo
Architects Qld. Troppo is one of the architectural practices in Australia
that many students dream of working for. Their response to climate, sense
of place, ESD approach and contribution to an “Australian vernacular
style”, all combined with a laconic attitude and sense of humour, appealed
to my design aspirations and character. The experience of working for
Troppo is one that has been realised by an increasingly large number of
UTas graduates – eight out of twenty-six employees around the country are
products of the School of Architecture at UTas.
Working full-time has provided me with insight to another aspect of
architecture, an experience that has been invaluable. I plan to return to
Utas to complete my Bachelor of Architecture within the next couple of
years.
Current Projects
Renovations, new residences, rural developments, eco-resorts and a
national competition for a new town on the Whitsundays. The methods of
design have also been varied, ranging from free-hand sketching and drawing
to computer drafting and 3D modeling. The scale of the office has provided
me with the opportunity to engage in all aspects of the design process.
